The Commanding Officer of the 748 Squadron, Major Dozier, was designated Air Commander. As the lead aircraft containing Major Dozier and Lt Donald Snow, lifted off the runway, #2 engine burst into flames. The plane s/n 44-8152 crashed into the ground seconds later, the full load of bomb exploded and an explosion was heard throughout the field at Glatton. Miraculously, there was one survivor. The mission was delayed but eventually got airborn but was out of position in the bomber stream because of the delay. The group bombed in trail at 14000 feet because of heavy clouds at the briefed altitude. Bomb results were unknown. Plane s/n 44-8152, named "Miss Ida," was piloted by Lt Donald B.
