Mission NarrativeMission No. 186Date - February 14, 1945 Target - Dresden -Crashed in France The primary target of this mission to Dresden was the marshalling yards at this administarative and communications center. The group experienced extreme difficulty with clouds and contrails on the way to the target. Bombing was done in Group formation with all squadrons dropping on the lead with the target partially obscured by clouds. Bombing results were good and four aircraft sustained damage from flak. Because of the long flight, eight of the groups planes landed on the continent to refuel. Plane s/n 43-38909, named "Kraut Krusher," and piloted by LT Duane Southwood, was disabled on the flight to Dresden, Germany and landed near Dijon, France. |
