Mission Narrative

Mission No. 184
Date - February 09, 1945
Target - Lutzkendorf, Crash on landing.
This mission to Lutzkendorf on Feb 9th, 1945 was a repeat of the Feb 6th mission. The 457th led the Wind with Air Commander Col Eugene Romig. Cloud coverage at the target was seven tenths and each squadron dropped in trail. Bombs were dropped from 25,000 feet and results were good. No aircraft sustained damage from the moderate flak.
Plane s/n 43-38751, was shot up on the mission to Lutzkendorf and returned to Glatton with one engine out and fuel running short. On the approach to land the engines quit (out of fuel) and the plane belly landed just short of the runway. None of the crew were injured.
